Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Federal regulation requires that institutions of higher education monitor the academic progress of students who receive federal financial aid. In order to remain eligible for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, students must comply with Wayland Baptist University standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). All undergraduate and graduate students will be evaluated for SAP at the end of spring term.
Requirements
Minimum Cumulative GPA (GPA): An undergraduate student must maintain a GPA of at least 2.00 (or 1.85 for students who have completed fewer than 30 credit hours). A graduate or professional student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
Minimum Pace: Undergraduate students must complete 67% of all courses attempted. Graduate students must complete 75% of attempted hours.
Maximum Timeframe: A student may attempt no more that 150% of the credit hours required by his or her degree program.
Failure to Meet SAP Requirements
Any undergraduate or graduate student who fails to meet SAP requirements after completion of spring term, is placed on Financial Aid Suspension and is no longer eligible to receive financial aid.
In order to regain financial aid eligibility, a student may choose to pay for classes out-of-pocket until he or she is once again meeting SAP requirements or submit an appeal to the Office of Financial Aid.
Appeal
Students sometimes experience circumstances beyond their control, which adversely affect academic progress. Students subject to Financial Aid Suspension may appeal to the Executive Director of Financial Aid in writing for a review of the decision.
Circumstances that may justify an appeal include: death in the family, illness of the student, and other situations which create undue hardship for the student. Appeals should include the following forms as well as appropriate supporting documentation:
Should the student not wish to appeal, the student must meet SAP requirements before aid eligibility can be re-established.
The U.S. Department of Education requires that all students be notified of their financial aid SAP standing regardless if they are receiving financial aid.
