Head Coach of Women's Soccer

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus 

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics 

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Athletics 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Assistant Coach and Student Coaches 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Coach of Women’s Soccer plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our soccer program. This role encompasses all functions normally associated with an intercollegiate athletics program in soccer. The coach will report to the Director of Athletics and be bound by the university and the athletic department's mission statements. Candidates should be willing to teach in the exercise sport science division and have athletic-related duties.    

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Coaching techniques and strategies for soccer.
  2. Recruiting quality student-athletes.
  3. Knowledge and adherence to Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA rules.
  4. Monitor the team’s academic performance.
  5. Scheduling of matches and related events.
  6. Budget management and organization.
  7. Purchase and maintain equipment and supplies.
  8. Event preparations, campus, and community relations.
  9. Marketing and development of the program.
  10. Leadership development
  11. Manage social media accounts
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Master’s Degree applicants will be given top priority.

Experience and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Head coaching experience at either the high school or college level is essential. Candidates should have a strong understanding of progressive teaching and coaching methodologies and demonstrate the ability to implement organized practice plans effectively. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with student-athletes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant sports and their governing rules.
  • Candidates must be able to collaborate as a team member, exhibit self-direction, and embrace the role of goodwill ambassador for WBU athletics.
  • Demonstrated leadership in successfully executing soccer coaching responsibilities, including strategic planning, skill development, recruitment, individual and team camp management, fiscal oversight, fundraising, organizational and administrative leadership, public relations, and sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and function collaboratively with the athletic department and the university.
  • A commitment to a Christian lifestyle and coaching from a Christian perspective is imperative.
  • Applicants should display proven integrity, strong leadership qualities, and the ability to inspire students to excel academically and athletically. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Naturalization Services.  Employees must be able to travel.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
