Wayland held its bi-annual blood drive on Tuesday, October 19th. Tis the season for blood, as Halloween is just around the corner. However, the campus donates twice a year, once in October and again in February. The donations are overseen by Wayland’s RN, Coralyn Dillard.
This semester’s blood drive ran from 10:30 am until 3 pm in the Brown Family Conference Center, and was successful, with 21 participants and a total of 17 units of blood obtained for donation. Wayland has partnered with Vitalant for our blood donations.
“Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) collects and processes the blood,” Dilliard said. “Then, it is distributed to hospitals, as needed.”
Those 17 units of blood have been sent to Vitalant and will be used to help people all over the area. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. One donation has the capability of saving up to 3 lives.
“[Each blood drive] is an opportunity for you to give of yourself and possibly save a life,” Dillard said.
The next blood drive will be held during the Spring semester in February.
